Tank, tankless, and everything feeding them
Water heaters are the heart of Next Level Plumbing's work — it's the call we get most, and the one we've built our reputation on. One review says it best: a 16-year-old heater died at night and flooded the garage, and Bryan had a new one installed within about an hour of first contact.

What water heater work typically costs
Every home is different, and you'll get an exact written price before we start — but nobody should have to call five plumbers just to learn a ballpark. Here's ours:
| Job | Typical range* | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Water heater repair (valves, thermocouple, pilot, elements) | $150 – $450 | Same visit |
| Standard tank replacement (like-for-like, to code) | $1,600 – $2,800 | 2–4 hours |
| Tank-to-tankless conversion (incl. gas & venting) | $3,900 – $6,500 | 1 day |
| Tankless service / descaling | $150 – $300 | 1–2 hours |
*Typical ranges for North County homes, including standard permits and code items. Unusual access, relocations, or panel/gas upgrades can move the number — which you'll know before we start, not after.
Water heater questions we get every week
My water heater is leaking — how fast can you get here?
Call now: (760) 980-4843. If it's leaking from the tank itself, shut off the cold-water valve on top and the gas (or breaker), and we'll get you on today's schedule whenever humanly possible. Most replacements happen the same day.
Repair or replace — how do you decide?
Age and where it's leaking. Under ~8 years old with a bad valve or thermocouple: repair it. Past 10–12 years or leaking from the tank shell: replacement is the honest answer, because a repair only buys months. We'll tell you which one you're looking at — and we don't earn commission either way.
Is tankless worth it in North County?
Often, yes — endless hot water, space back in your garage, and 20+ year lifespan vs. 10–12 for tanks. But it's not for everyone: conversions cost more upfront and need adequate gas supply. We install Navien systems and we'll size the gas line properly, not "hope it works." Read our honest tankless vs. tank breakdown.
Do you pull permits?
Yes — water heater swaps in California require a permit, and unpermitted installs bite you at inspection time when you sell. We handle it as part of the job.
"We had a 16 year old Rheem water heater that decided to finally die... flooding our garage. Bryan picked up the replacement and was at my place in less than an hour. He completed the job in about an hour and did an outstanding job."
"We replaced our old tank water heaters with a new tankless. Bryan was fantastic throughout the entire process. He responded quickly…"
